David Leon-Campos, 33, of Guanajuato, Mexico, was sentenced to 7 months' imprisonment and will be deported for illegal reentry into the United States and employment document fraud. According to court documents, on July 14, 2024, Leon-Campos was arrested in Sweetwater County for DWUI, interference, failure to report an accident, suspended license, and no insurance. ICE was contacted, and they determined that Leon-Campos had previously been removed from the U.S. and had not applied for permission to reenter after being formally removed in November 2020. Investigators with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) learned that Leon-Campos used a fake Social Security card and a fake green card to obtain employment. ICE and HSI investigated the crimes, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook prosecuted the case.
