Steven Downs, age 47, was indicted for raping and killing a woman at the University of Alaska in 1993 when he was a student there,
The Fairbanks Police Department had DNA analyzed and identified a relative of the Defendants, who told police that her nephew as a student at the University at that time.
Downs was arrested in Maine and was extradited to Alaska for prosecution.
Outcome: Downs was found guilty on both charges, first-degree murder and first-degree sexual assault.
