Ulysses Hughes was "wing walking" a departing aircraft at the airport when he was hit by a van driven by Willis. He was instantly paralyzed from the chest down and later suffered a stroke.

Plaintiff claimed past medical bills totaled $2 million and $30 million for future medical bills. The 18-page verdict form listed 20 different categories of compensatory damages.
