Description: Alexandria, Virginia consumer credit lawyers represented Plaintiff who sued Defendants on Fair Credit Reporting Act violation theories.

"The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is a federal law that regulates the collection, use, and disclosure of consumer credit information. The FCRA was enacted in 1970 to protect consumers from inaccurate and unfair credit reporting practices.

The FCRA applies to all three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. It also applies to other companies that collect or use consumer credit information, such as lenders, insurers, and employers.

The FCRA gives consumers a number of rights, including the right to:

Request a copy of their credit report from each credit bureau once a year at no charge.
Dispute any inaccurate or incomplete information in their credit report.
Place a fraud alert on their credit report to prevent identity theft.
Obtain a credit freeze to prevent creditors from accessing their credit report.

The FCRA also prohibits creditors and other users of credit reports from discriminating against consumers based on their credit history.

If you believe that your credit report contains inaccurate or incomplete information, you can dispute the information with the credit bureau. The credit bureau must investigate your dispute and correct any errors that it finds.

If you believe that you have been discriminated against because of your credit history, you can file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The CFPB is an independent government agency that enforces the FCRA and other consumer financial protection laws.

The FCRA is an important law that helps to protect consumers from inaccurate and unfair credit reporting practices. If you have any questions about the FCRA or your rights under the law, you can contact the CFPB at 1-855-411-2372 or visit their website at www.consumerfinance.gov."
