"Copyright infringement is the use of works protected by copyright law without permission, infringing certain exclusive rights granted to the copyright holder, such as the right to reproduce, distribute, display or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works. Copyright infringement is a form of intellectual property theft, and violators are liable under the law.

There are four main types of copyright infringement:

Copyright infringement by reproduction: This occurs when someone copies a copyrighted work without permission. For example, making a photocopy of a copyrighted book or recording a copyrighted song without permission.
Copyright infringement by distribution: This occurs when someone distributes a copyrighted work without permission. For example, selling or giving away a copyrighted book or song without permission.
Copyright infringement by performance: This occurs when someone performs a copyrighted work without permission. For example, playing a copyrighted song at a public event without permission.
Copyright infringement by making derivative works: This occurs when someone creates a new work based on a copyrighted work without permission. For example, making a movie based on a copyrighted book or writing a song based on a copyrighted melody.

Copyright infringement can be a serious offense, and violators can be subject to civil and criminal penalties. Civil penalties can include damages, injunctive relief, and attorney's fees. Criminal penalties can include fines, imprisonment, or both.

There are a number of defenses to copyright infringement, including:

Fair use: Fair use is a legal doctrine that allows for the limited use of copyrighted material without permission. For example, quoting a copyrighted work for the purpose of criticism or commentary.
Mistake: If someone copies a copyrighted work without permission but does so in error, they may not be liable for copyright infringement.
License: If someone has permission to use a copyrighted work, they are not liable for copyright infringement.

If you believe that your copyright has been infringed, you should contact an attorney to discuss your legal options." Google Bard
