Description: The State of Michigan charged Sandra Layne, age 75, with first-degree murder for the shooting death of her 17-year-old grandson Jonathan Hoffman who was shot multiple times over a period of minutes in 2012.

Evidence during the trial revealed that the defendant shot at her grandson 10 time and hit him 6 times and that he called 911 pleading for help during the altercation between he and his grandmother that resulted in his death.

Defendant claimed self defense.

Outcome: Defendant was convicted to the lesser included charge of second-degree murder and faces 14 year in prison.
