Description: The United States of America charged Stephen McFadden with selling "bath salts" knowing the product was a synthetic drug make up of 3,4-methylenedioxymethcathinone, 2,4-methylenedioxypyrovalerone, and 4-methyle-ethylcathinone. The charges were based on the proposition that the drugs were substantially similar to proscribed drugs.

Defendant claimed that he sold the items for us in incense and potpourri burners.

Outcome: Defendant was convicted and sentenced to 2 years in prison.
