Springfield, MA - Christine P. Pilbin sued Jaime C. Machado and Eurico C. Machado on personal injury auto negligence theories claiming to have sustained $750,000 in injuries and damages as a result of a car wreck caused by the defendants.

The defendants filed a motion to dismiss because of lack of jurisdiction.

The federal courts are courts of limited jurisdiction and may not preside over any dispute like this one unless there is complete diversity of citizenship in which there is at least $75,000 in issue. Also, the plaintiff may not initiate a diversity case in the state in which the plaintiff is a a resident.
