Keith Woolery and Jackie Oliver v. Town of Wister, LeFlore County Sheriff's Department, Jordan Westbrook, Mike Suttles, Nathen Colbert, Chris Pruitt, William Robertson and Paul Cole

Mr. Morlan:

Thank you for publishing my civil rights, excessive force case. The case involved claims that Jordan Westbrook, the former Police Chief of the Town of Wister and other Wister officers, along with two deputies from LeFlore County Sheriff Department, violated Keith Woolery and his 70 something year old mother’s civil rights by using excessive force, wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution related to four separate incidents wherein Keith Woolery was wrongfully arrested, beaten, kicked, and shot with a Taser gun multiple times. Three of the four incidents were caught on chest camera video worn by the Police Chief and the other Wister Police officers. These videos show the Police Chief Westbrook shooting Keith Woolery multiple times with a Taser gun, most of which were at point blank range while Keith Woolery was already subdued, face down on the ground with his face in the dirt and a Wister Police officer on his back. In each incident, Mr. Woolery suffered injuries and no police officers were injured. Mr. Woolery was hospitalized after three of the incidents and had a liver stint collapsed as a result of being kicked in the side by Chief Westbrook while he was on the ground. Mr. Woolery and his mother Jackie Oliver were arrested, charged, prosecuted and convicted of multiple charges in the Town of Wister municipal court stemming from two of the incidents. However, all of those convictions were overturned and thrown out on appeal to the District Court of LeFlore County.

The Defendant officers, the Town of Wister and LeFlore County Sheriff Department all denied the use of excessive force or the violation of any civil rights.

A global settlement was recently reached to the mutual satisfaction of all parties. The amounts paid are confidential.
