On May 20, 2022, Orlando Gonzlez, age 22, transported undocumented aliens in his GMC Fronton and drove 100 mph which ended in a rollover injuring his passengers. He drove at a high rate of speed until he struck a utility pole which caused the vehicle to roll over multiple times, coming to rest in a local church parking lot. Two of the three undocumented aliens who were in the vehicle were ejected approximately 50ft in the air. One suffered a traumatic brain injury and was placed on life support.

At the time of the incident, Gonzalez was on supervised release from a 2020 human trafficking conviction.

Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation with the assistance of the Border Patrol and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric D. Flores prosecuted the case.

Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to fifteen (15) months custody of the Bureau of Prisons and three (3) years of supervised release term with special condition of outpatient Drug Treatment Program, until completion with the approval of Program Director and Probation Officer; $100 special assessment; waived fine and victim restitution. 1/4/2022 Time served to run concurrent with Criminal No. 7:22cr1003 and no further supervised release term.
