Additional Information: Attorney Barrett received his B.A. from Trinity College and his J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law. He has maintained a general civil and criminal litigation practice, specializing primarily in matrimonial and appellate matters. He has participated in scores (if not hundreds) of bench and jury trials in Connecticut’s state and federal courts, on a wide variety of complicated family, civil, administrative and criminal matters. In addition, he has been counsel on more than 40 separate appeals to the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts. Campbell has served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Connecticut School of Law. He also lectures frequently, including seminars on appellate practice and family law, and has been a guest family law expert on National Public Radio. In 2005, Campbell was named the winner of the Judge Maxwell Heiman Award by the Hartford County Bar Association. The award is given annually to the Hartford County attorney in the first ten years of practice who best demonstrates the high standards of legal scholarship and ethics exemplified by the late jurist. In 2002, Campbell was named a “New Leader of Law” by the Connecticut Law Tribune newspaper for his contributions to the development of the law. In November of 2004, Campbell was selected as a Fellow of The Connecticut Bar Foundation James W. Cooper Fellows Program. Selection as a Fellow requires demonstrated superior legal ability and devotion to the welfare of the community, state and nation, as well as to the advancement of the legal profession. Campbell is the co-author (with Donald Cantor, Esq., Elizabeth Cantor, Ph.D., and James Black, M.D.) of Same Sex Marriage: The Legal and Psychological Evolution in America. In 2006, the book was awarded the American Psychological Association’s “Most Distinguished Book in Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Psychology” at the APA’s annual meeting in New Orleans. Attorney Barrett is presently the Co-Chair of the Hartford Bar Association’s Family Law Section, a role he has held since 2005. From 2000 to 2004, he served as the statewide Chair of the Family Law Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyer’s Section. In addition, from 2000 to 2003 he was a Barrister in the Oliver Ellsworth Inn of Court. He frequently serves as a Special Master in Hartford, New Britain and Middletown. In 2007, he was selected to serve as a Special Master in Hartford’s Early Intervention Program, which was established to identify and resolve high-conflict custody matters. In 2009, Campbell was elected to the Board of Director’s of the Children’s Law Center, which provides pro bono or low cost legal representation to children of impoverished families in contested custody cases. Campbell resides in Durham’s historic district with his wife and their three children. He is an active member of both the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress and Durham’s Democratic Town Committee. In 2009, Campbell was elected as an alternate to Durham’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
