Additional Information: David Thompson is the Managing Partner of Cooper & Kirk and joined the firm at its founding. Mr. Thompson has extensive trial and appellate experience in a wide range of matters. Mr. Thompson was awarded an A.B. degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1991, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1994, Mr. Thompson received a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School.

In commercial matters, Mr. Thompson has had significant trial experience in litigating large claims for plaintiffs and defendants. Serving as the de facto general counsel to several private companies, Mr. Thompson has developed significant practical business experience, which allows him to be extremely effective in litigating commercial disputes. He recently led the firm's trial efforts on behalf of Bank of America in a case in which $18 million in damages was awarded against the United States. More broadly, Mr. Thompson has prepared complex damage analyses in antitrust, securities, and breach of contract cases. He is currently pursuing a claim for more than $250 million of damages on behalf of AmBase Corporation against the United States government. In connection with these matters, Mr. Thompson has taken hundreds of depositions of senior executives, expert witnesses, high ranking government officials, employees, and union leaders.

Mr. Thompson also has extensive experience in constitutional litigation. Mr. Thompson has litigated numerous cases involving freedom of speech, civil rights, voting rights, takings of property, and separation of powers issues. Specifically, he has successfully challenged the Line Item Veto Act, the Census Bureau's plan to utilize statistical sampling, and the Department of Justice's attempts to impose a racially gerrymandered district on a Louisiana school board. Mr. Thompson also worked on the firm's successful defense of Proposition 209, a California ballot measure that prohibited state-sponsored racial discrimination in California. More recently, he successfully defended Florida's ban on felon voting before Southern District of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He was also intimately involved in the firm's challenge of the McCain-Feingold statute and deposed several Members of Congress in that case.

Mr. Thompson also has an active class action practice. He represents classes of plaintiffs challenging price fixing practices in the medical sector. He also represents a class of National Guardsmen seeking compensation from the federal government for course work they were required to perform. He also successfully defended a labor union in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals against a class action that sought to contest the expansion of an affirmative action decree.
