Additional Information: Michael received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Mathematics from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon. Michael is licensed to practice law in the state of Oregon. He is a member of the Multnomah Bar Association. He has spoken on a number of attorney panels at Continuing Legal Education courses in the area of landlord-tenant law in the state of Oregon. Michael serves clients in the areas of employment discrimination, wage and hour, landlord tenant, class actions, and general litigation. He also provides small businesses with legal support and representation in litigation. Michael has served clients in state and federal courts in Oregon and the Oregon Court of Appeals. In addition to his consultation and trial work, Michael leads all appellate work at SLATER | ROSS, appearing before the Oregon Court of Appeals and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Michael has served as lead counsel in a number of cases, including McDuffy v. Interstate Distributor Co., a landmark obesity discrimination case brought by a truck driver against his employer. The case resulted in a $109,000 jury verdict for our client for a three-month suspension. An additional $109,000 in attorney fees and costs was awarded by the Court to be paid by the employer. The case received national media attention. Michael has been interviewed for national legal publications and has appeared on Paula Zahn Now on CNN. Michael recently recieved a $300,000 verdict in Multnomah County Circuit Court in Weedman v. McGilvra. His clients sued a building contractor for fraud when they received a residential-use only building after they hired the contractor to build a wedding facility. Michael was lead counsel for SLATER | ROSS in a class action filed against Viterra Energy Services for charging tenants late fees and administrative charges for submetering their water and sewer use in apartment complexes. The case rescently resulted in a settlement fund for $700,000. $170,000 in unclaimed settlement funds were donated to the Oregon Law Center and will be used for a three-year attorney position for fair housing and fair lending advocacy.
