Description:
Charles Algeri sued Dr. David Arndt, a back surgeon, who left him on an operating room table to deposit a check in his bank account in 2002, and Mount Auburn Hospital for medical malpractice. Algeri, a cab driver, alleged that on July 10, 2002, Arndt left him on the operating table for about 35 minutes. Arndt later admitted that he had some overdue bills and he needed to get to the bank before 7p.m. In addition, Algeri claimed that Arndt botched the surgery so severely that he has been in excruciating pain ever since. He further claimed that he underwent to additional surgeries to correct the problems created by Arndt's substandard and negligent surgery.
Arndt was later charged with statutory child rape, indecent assault and battery, and drugging a person for sexual intercourse. He is is being held without bail on federal drug charges, which include conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
Outcome: Settled for $1.25 million.
