Description:
Ronald and Fazila Verni sued Aramark Corporation and others for the injuries sustained by Antonia Verni in 1999 when their car was struck by a truck driven by Daniel Lanzaro, age 34, who was driving while intoxicated after consuming beer at a Giants football game. Lanzaro sidestepped the rules intended to prevent him from consuming too much beer at the game by tipping Aramark's vendor $10, allowing him to buy six beers rather than two. His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit when tested after the accident that paralyzed Antonia, age two, from the neck down.
The defenses asserted by Aramark are unknown at this time.
Outcome: Plaintiffs' verdict for $75 million revesed by the New Jersey Court of Appeals.
