Fredric M. Knapp was appointed Morris County Prosecutor by Governor Chris Christie on June 27, 2014 following confirmation by the New Jersey Senate. Previously, he was serving as Acting Morris County Prosecutor and Assistant Attorney General beginning on December 14, 2012.

Prior to his appointment as Prosecutor, Mr. Knapp served as a Deputy Attorney General for the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice from 1979 to 1983 in the Appellate, Trial and Casino Prosecution sections. In 1981, Mr. Knapp was appointed a Special Assistant United States Attorney and was assigned by the Department of Justice to the Organized Crime and Racketeering Strike Force. In that capacity, Mr. Knapp investigated and prosecuted Organized Crime and Labor Racketeering cases arising in Atlantic City and Southern New Jersey. Mr. Knapp also worked with the New Jersey State Police Intelligence Bureau and Atlantic City Special Investigations Bureau on Organized Crime Investigations, also originating in Atlantic and Camden Counties.

Prior to his appointment in 2012, Mr. Knapp served as a founding partner with the law firm of Knapp, Trimboli & Prusinowski in Florham Park, New Jersey. His practice was devoted to the area of Labor and Employment Law, representing both private and public entities in contract negotiations, grievance arbitrations, interest arbitrations, employee disciplinary matters, and employment litigation before State and Federal Courts, the Division of Civil Rights, Equal Employment Opportunity, New Jersey Department of Personnel (Civil Service) and the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission. His clients included numerous law enforcement agencies, public entities and corporate clients.

He is a former Chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Morris County Bar Association and served as an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University teaching public sector labor relations and administrative law. He also served as an instructor for many years at the Morris County Firefighter and Police Training Academy. Mr. Knapp is admitted to the New Jersey, New York and Federal District bars, the U.S. Court of Appeals, First and Third Circuits and the United States Supreme Court. He attended the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, receiving his B.S. in 1975. Mr. Knapp was a member of the Law Journal at the Saint Louis University School of Law receiving a J.D. in 1978. Mr. Knapp regularly lectured to employer organizations and other groups concerning labor and employment law and related fields. He has also authored articles on issues concerning employment litigation, interest arbitration and employment-at-will. Mr. Knapp served a four-year term for the District X, Attorney Ethics Committee appointed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey and served as a Trustee of the Morris County Bar Association and as a Trustee of the Morris County Bar Foundation.
