He focuses on representing corporations and other major organizations in all aspects of employment-related claims, including presentations to and hearings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and related state agencies. He also represents employers in a variety of other employment litigation in state and federal courts. His major clients have included such well-known names as Ford Motor Company, Leo Burnett & Company, Abbott Laboratories and the University of Chicago. In his traditional labor law practice, James acts on behalf of corporations in NLRB and collective bargaining matters, including responding to unfair labor practice charges and negotiating collective bargaining agreements. He also negotiates conciliation agreements. James entered practice with Mayer Brown in 1964 and assumed his current position of Senior Counsel and Retired Partner in 2005.
