Additional Information: Martin was born in February 1963 in Washington D.C., and raised in Prince William County VA. He graduated from Osborne Park High School in 1980 and joined the U.S Navy. He was a Data Systems Technician and served on a combat vessel in the Atlantic Fleet, and on an oceanographic research vessel in the Southwest Pacific. Martin was honorably discharged in 1987, and then lived in Saudi Arabia from 1991 through 1994 where he was a contractor to the Royal Saudi Navy after the first Gulf War supervising the refurbishment of their combat vessels' computer systems. Martin attended Northern Virginia Community College from 1995 through 1996, obtaining an A.A. and graduating summa cum laude and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Thereafter, Martin attended the University of Virginia from 1996 through 1998, obtaining a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, with Distinction, writing a thesis on Jurisprudence and Social Policy Making. While at UVA he was a member of the Washington Literary Society and Debating Union. Martin then attended the Vermont Law School from 1998 through 2001, obtaining a Juris Doctorate degree where he was nominated to the Who's Who Among Students at American Universities and Colleges, and obtained the American Jurisprudence Award for the Highest Grade in Non-Profit Tax Law, an advanced tax law seminar. Martin was admitted to the Virginia Bar in October 2001, and began practicing with the Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society in March 2002. His current areas of practice are bankruptcy, consumer, family, landlord/tenant, non-profit, and Wills and Estates. Martinattended the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law in January 2004.
