Case Number: 3:20-cv-51
Judge: Alice R. Senechal
Court: United States District Court for the District of North Dakota (Cass County)
Plaintiff's Attorney: Pro Se
Defendant's Attorney: Cynthia Ann Bremer and Brent Kettelkamp
Description: Fargo, North Dakota pro se plaintiff without a lawyer sued the Defendant on a civil rights job discrimination theory.
"The federal government enforces several laws that prohibit job discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), national origin, age (40 or older), disability, and genetic information. These laws include:
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
The Equal Pay Act of 1963
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA)
Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA)
These laws prohibit discrimination in all aspects of employment, including hiring, firing, compensation, benefits, training, promotion, and discipline. They also prohibit retaliation against employees who complain about discrimination or participate in an investigation of a discrimination complaint.
If you believe that you have been the victim of job discrimination, you can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC is a federal agency that enforces the federal anti-discrimination laws.
You can also file a complaint with your state's civil rights agency. Many states have their own anti-discrimination laws that go beyond the federal laws.
If you file a complaint with the EEOC, they will investigate your complaint and try to resolve it through mediation. If mediation is unsuccessful, the EEOC may file a lawsuit against your employer on your behalf.
You can also file a lawsuit on your own. However, it is important to have an attorney if you decide to file a lawsuit.
Job discrimination is a serious problem that can have a devastating impact on individuals and families. If you believe that you have been the victim of job discrimination, it is important to know your rights and to take action.
