"Job discrimination civil rights law is the body of law that protects employees and job applicants from discrimination in the workplace. This includes discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), national origin, age, disability, and genetic information.

The main federal law prohibiting job discrimination is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII applies to all employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It prohibits discrimination in all aspects of employment, including hiring, firing, promotions, pay, and benefits.

In addition to Title VII, there are a number of other federal laws that prohibit job discrimination, including:

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Equal Pay Act (EPA)
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA)
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA)

These laws apply to different groups of people and different types of discrimination. For example, the ADEA protects workers who are 40 years of age or older from discrimination based on their age. The ADA protects workers with disabilities from discrimination. The EPA prohibits employers from paying men and women different wages for doing the same job.

If you believe that you have been discriminated against at work, you can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC is a federal agency that enforces the laws prohibiting job discrimination. If the EEOC finds that you have been discriminated against, it may try to mediate a settlement between you and your employer. If mediation is unsuccessful, the EEOC may file a lawsuit on your behalf.

In addition to federal law, many states and cities have their own laws prohibiting job discrimination. These laws may offer additional protections to employees and job applicants.

Outcome: 09/29/2023 59 ORDER granting 36 Motion for Summary Judgment. For the reasons set forth in the attached Ruling and Order, Defendants' motion for summary judgment is GRANTED, as to the federal claims.

The Court declines to exercise supplemental jurisdiction over the remaining state law claims and remands those claims back to Connecticut Superior Court.
