Erasmo Zuniga-Angel, 30, of Buena Vista, Hidalgo, Mexico, was among a group of six undocumented noncitizens who had illegally crossed the Rio Grande into the U.S. on May 4, 2023. U.S. Border Patrol agents encountered the group and discovered that Zuniga-Angel had previously been deported Nov. 18, 2022 after being convicted in Missouri of illegal re-entry and sexual misconduct involving a child.

USBP investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jayvee Rhoda prosecuted the case.

Outcome:

Defendant was found guilty and sentenced to 24 months in prison
