Slidell Woman Sentenced for Railroad Retirement Fraud
From January 2022 to April 2022, Tonya Butler, of Slidell, Louisiana, age 55, made false statements to the Railroad Retirement Board to obtain sickness benefits. In truth, BUTLER was working full-time for an interstate trucking company. Her false statements caused a loss of approximately $7,345.52. BUTLER also received short term disability benefits and COVID-19 related funds, to which she was not entitled, in the approximate amount of $62,000.
U.S. Attorney Evans praised the work of Amtrak – Office of Inspector General and the Railroad Retirement Board - Office of Inspector General in investigating this matter. Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Financial Crimes Unit was in charge of the prosecution.
Outcome:
Defendant was found guilty and sentenced to four years of probation and 150 hours of community service
