The Hobbs Act is a federal law that prohibits robbery or extortion that affects interstate or foreign commerce. The law defines robbery as the unlawful taking of property from another person by force, violence, intimidation, or fear.

The Hobbs Act was passed in 1934 to combat organized crime. It's often used in cases involving: Public corruption, Commercial disputes, Violent criminals and street gangs, and Corruption directed at members of labor unions.
The Hobbs Act can apply to any robbery or extortion that affects interstate commerce, even if the crime is committed anywhere in the United States. For example, robbing a truck carrying goods across state lines would be a Hobbs Act violation.

A conviction under the Hobbs Act can result in: Up to 20 years in prison, Forfeiture of property obtained through robbery or extortion, Severe financial penalties, and Significant risk to employment and reputation.

Outcome: Plea of guilty to Counts 1, 2, and 3 of the Superseding Indictment. Imprisonment for 210 months, per count, to run concurrent. Remanded to custody. Three years supervised release, with conditions, to run concurrent. $300 special assessment.
