Unreasonable delays: Intentionally delaying a claim in the hopes that the policyholder will drop it
Misrepresentations: Lying about the policy, claims process, or coverage
Withholding information: Refusing to provide documents or information about the claim
Unfair settlement offers: Offering a settlement that is less than the claim is worth
Denying valid claims: Denying a claim without a reasonable explanation
Failing to investigate: Refusing to investigate the claim or doing so in an improper way
Threatening tactics: Using threatening or abusive tactics towards the policyholder
The Texas Insurance Code prohibits bad faith conduct by insurance companies. Policyholders can take action against bad faith practices and seek fair settlements. The statute of limitations for bad faith claims is two years
