Age discrimination laws in the United States include the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, and the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA):

Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
Protects people who are 40 or older from age discrimination in employment. This includes hiring, firing, pay, promotions, benefits, training, and other terms and conditions of employment. The ADEA also prohibits age preferences in job advertisements and notices. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces the ADEA.
Age Discrimination Act of 1975
Prohibits age discrimination in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. The Civil Rights Center enforces this act.
Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA)
Prohibits age discrimination in programs and activities that are part of WIA Title I, or that are part of the One-Stop system. The Civil Rights Center enforces this act.

Some examples of age discrimination include:

Mocking, insulting, or ridiculing someone because of their age
Making jokes at someone's expense
Generating or perpetuating stereotypes about someone's age
Calling attention to someone's limitations or abilities
