Salah Hasan Al-Ejaili, Suhail Al Shimari and Asa’ad Al-Zuba v. CACI International, et al.
Case Number: 1:08-CG-827
Judge: Leonie M. Brinkema
Court: United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (Fairfax County)
Plaintiff's Attorney:
Defendant's Attorney: Matthew L. Fornshell, et al.
Description:
Alexandria, Virginia personal injury lawyers represented the Plaintiff who sued the Defendants for the injuries they sustained as a direct result of the violation of international law.
The plaintiffs alleged that employees of CACI, an American corporation with its headquarters in the Eastern District of Virginia, conspired with and aided and abetted United States military personnel in subjecting plaintiffs to torture; cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment (“CIDT”); and war crimes, all in violation of international law, while plaintiffs were detained by the United States military at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq from late 2003 to 2004. At that time, Iraq was under the control of the Coalition Provisional Authority, a temporary governing body that was created in the early days of the United States-led occupation of Iraq by the Commander of Coalition Forces, who was a United States Army General.
CACI Internation claimed that there was no evidence that its employees were directly involved in the abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison.
Outcome: Plaintiffs' verdict for $42 million in damages.
