Description: Paul Palmerin sued Johnson County on national origin discrimination and retaliation theories theories claiming that he was called a "wetback" for reporting discriminatory conduct in the Johnson County Waste Water Department.

Palmerin had worked to the department for almost 12 years but he and made enemies by reporting others for violations that included racial and ethnic harassment, using the county maintenance facility to work on personal vehicles and not wearing a hardhat when required.

The claimed that he was fired for doing what others were mildly punished for doing. He claimed that his supervisor warned him to shut up.

Defendant denied wrongdoing.


Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $113,000 in past wages, $561,000 in future wages and $100,000 for emotional distress.
