Description: Joe Miller, age 30, and Alex Graham, age 26, sued Ramsey County Sheriff Matt Bostrom on civil rights violation theories under 42 U.S.C. 1983 claiming that he retaliated against them for supporting his opponent in the political race in which he defeated former Sheriff Bob Fletcher. The Plaintiffs were hired by Fletcher and were probationary nonsworn employees of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department.
Defendant denied that he played any role in the decision to terminate the Plaintiffs and the decision was not motivated by the support of the Plaintiffs for Fletcher's re-election bid.
Outcome: Defendant's verdict.
