Sheldon Carlton Day, age 29, of Vanderwagen, and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, on Oct. 2, 2022, allegedly hit and killed two people who were stopped on the shoulder of Highway 602, repairing a flat tire, near Bread Springs, NM. Daye was allegedly driving while under the influence at the time. The incident occurred within the exterior boundaries of the Navajo Nation.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and the New Mexico State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Alexander F. Flores is prosecuting the case.
Outcome: An indictment is only an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. If convicted, Daye faces up to 8 years in prison.
