Description: Albany, Georgia civil rights lawyer represented Plaintiff who sued Defendant on an Americans With Disabilities Act violation theory.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in several areas, including employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to state and local government' programs and services.

The ADA was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1990. It is divided into five titles (or sections) that relate to different areas of public life.

Title I of the ADA prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities in employment. This includes discrimination in job application procedures, hiring, advancement and discharge of employees, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment.

Title II of the ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities by "public entities" such as state and local government agencies. This includes discrimination in the provision of public services, such as education, transportation, and recreation.

Title III of the ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, such as restaurants, hotels, and theaters. This includes discrimination in the design and construction of facilities, as well as in the provision of goods and services.

Title IV of the ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in telecommunications. This includes discrimination in the provision of telephone services, such as relay services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Title V of the ADA establishes the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board) to enforce the ADA's accessibility requirements.

The ADA has had a major impact on the lives of people with disabilities in the United States. It has helped to ensure that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else in the areas of employment, education, transportation, and public accommodations.

If you believe that you or someone you know has been discriminated against on the basis of disability, you can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the Department of Justice. You can also file a complaint with the Access Board if you believe that a public accommodation is not accessible to people with disabilities.
