Description: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania criminal defense lawyer represented defendant charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Cheron Shelton, age 34, was charged with possessing a stole .22 caliber rifle and ammunition that was recovered from his mother’s residence by Allegheny County Police Homicide Detectives. The rifle and ammunition were recovered during the investigation into the March 9, 2016 murder of five people in Wilkinsburg, PA. The rifle was not used in the March 9, 2016 mass shooting.

Assistant United States Attorneys Doug Maloney and Brendan Conway prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

Acting United States Attorney Kaufman commended the efforts of the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, the Allegheny County Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The resolution of this case was the result of the collaborative effort of these agencies.

Outcome: The defendant was sentenced to a 96-month term of imprisonment to be followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. A mandatory $100.00 special assessment is imposed, a fine is waived for inability to pay.
