Description: Spokane, Washington civil rights lawyers represented Plaintiff, who sued Defendant on 1983 wrongful death negligence theories claiming that Cindy Lou Hill, age 55, died as a direct result of not being treated for peritonitis due to a ruptured liver adhesions that caused a hole in her small intestine.

The Court entered a default judgment against the County for destroying a video recording of Ms. Hill's final hours.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict. Spokane County would have to pay 10%, or nearly $3 million, while Spokane County Jail healthcare provider NaphCare would have to pay 90% or $24 million to Hill's estate. The total awarded amount to Hill's estate is nearly $27 million.
