Description: St. Louis, Missouri criminal defense lawyer represented Defendant charged with embezzling from her employer.

Samantha J. Cherry, age 35, of Morrisonville, Illinois, was a manager at a UMB Bank branch in St. Louis at the time. Between January 2021 and March 2022, Cherry took $439,000 in cash directly from the vault and moved currency from other cash supplies into her cash drawer totals. Cherry admitted to the theft after being questioned by bank personnel.

Cherry pleaded guilty in March 2023 to one felony count of theft or embezzlement by a bank officer.

The FBI investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Roy is prosecuting the case.

Outcome: The defendant pleaded guilty to count one of the indictment on March 1, 2023. The defendant is hereby committed to the custody of the United States Bureau of Prisons to be imprisoned for a total term of 27 month(s) as to count 1r. Upon release from imprisonment, the defendant shall be on supervised release for a term of five (5) years. The defendant shall make restitution in the total amount of $439,000.00. The Defendant shall pay to the United States a special assessment of $100.00 for Count 1r, which shall be due immediately.
