Description: Akron, Ohio civil rights lawyer represented Plaintiff who sued Defendant on a job discrimination theory.

"Job discrimination is the practice of treating someone differently based on their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information. It is illegal to discriminate against someone in any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, compensation, benefits, training, promotion, and other terms and conditions of employment.

There are a number of federal laws that prohibit job discrimination, including:

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA)
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA)

These laws make it illegal for employers to discriminate against job applicants or employees on the basis of protected characteristics. If you believe you have been discriminated against, you can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC is a federal agency that enforces the federal anti-discrimination laws.

You can also file a lawsuit against your employer in federal court. If you win your lawsuit, you may be entitled to damages, including back pay, front pay, and emotional distress damages.

It is important to remember that you have rights under the law. If you believe you have been discriminated against, you should speak up. You can contact the EEOC or an employment lawyer for more information about your rights.

Here are some examples of job discrimination:

An employer refuses to hire someone because of their race.
An employer fires someone because of their religion.
An employer pays someone less money because of their sex.
An employer denies someone a promotion because of their national origin.
An employer harasses someone because of their age.
An employer refuses to hire someone because of their disability.
An employer fires someone because of their genetic information.

If you believe you have been the victim of job discrimination, you should contact the EEOC or an employment lawyer."
